Finding Comfort in a Foreign Country.

Contributor - Andy Lewis

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I identify with George Costanza - always scheming up some ridiculous idea. I hate olives passionately, am a big dog person, and love reading comics.

Professionally, I help brands to express complex things simply. I’m currently an advertising creative director working in cybersecurity and AI for a large tech company. Though I am about to start my own spite store. Well, spite agency actually.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Moving to a foreign country without a plan. If it sounds stupid, it’s because it is. But stupid isn’t always bad. Figuring out everything from the visa, to employment, and building both a professional and personal network all at the same time was a lot to overcome.

I learned a ton about myself and living abroad changed my perspective and allowed me to see the world in a different way.

What has been your biggest hurdle?

Figuring out what I want to do with my life and having the confidence to make it happen. I want to live somewhere I love. I want to do something that helps people. I want to create work that makes a difference in the world. But what does that mean? I’m hoping that starting my own business and moving abroad (again) will be a step in the right direction. But there’s only one way to find out.

What does finding comfort in the uncomfortable mean to you?

Growth. When you step outside your comfort zone you’re learning to adapt and grow. It shows you who you are and who you’re capable of becoming.
